End of the action 'A test of solidarity'

28-02-2011

We have gathered 6012 postcards, and in cooperation with Gdansk Business Club we have organized an auction of postcards filled in by people known from public life. Together, we have gathered 8 505.45 PLN, an amount that was transferred to the account of Polish Humanitarian Action. This money will support a campaign of PHA ‘Education Action’ in educating the citizens of Afghanistan.
We are very grateful to everyone who has participated in the 'A test of solidarity' or supported us in its realization.

The postcard auction

17-12-2010

The concept behind the “A test of solidarity” campaign was presented by Jerzy Borowczak, Director of the Solidarity Centre Foundation, while the auction itself was held by the well-known journalist Marek Kański, expertly encouraging participants to place bids.

Postcards by the following authors were being auctioned: Jerzy Buzek, President of the European Parliament; Tadeusz Mazowiecki, Prime Minister of the first post-Communist government in Poland; Janina Ochojska, founder and President of the Polish Humanitarian Action, awarded the Lech Wałęsa prize for her many years of charitable work for human solidarity; Maryla Rodowicz, one of Poland’s greatest musical performers; Andrzej Wajda, Polish film and theatre director; Frederik Willem de Klerk, laureate of the Nobel Peace Prize for his role in ending apartheid; Mairead Corrigan Maguire, peace activist in Northern Ireland and laureate of the Nobel Peace Prize; and Lech Wałęsa, leader of the August 1980 strikes in Gdańsk and laureate of the Nobel Peace Prize.

The auction raised 2,800 pln. The money will be transferred in support for the Action Education campaign, led by the Polish Humanitarian Action.

The event closes the international “A test of solidarity” campaign running since June 2010. Please visit www.test.fcs.org.pl, where you can read more about the action and about our achievements as part of the campaign.

We finished testing solidarity

26-08-2010

"A test of solidarity" is a community action carried out by the Foundation since June this year. Using dedicated postcards we asked the question, what solidarity as a value means to people.

With the support of Polish tourist organisations and Polish diplomatic establishments we received postcards from different parts of the globe, including ones from Belgium, the Czech Republic, Brazil and Cuba.

More and more figures of public life became ambassadors of this initiative, among them: President of the Polish Humanitarian Action Janina Ochojska, director Andrzej Wajda, music jurnalist Marek Niedźwiecki, Minister of Education Katarzyna Hall, President of the European Parliament Jerzy Buzek.

We are still receiving postcards, you can see the counter growing on the action's website at www.test.fcs.org.pl.

During the finale of “A test of solidarity”, which will take place on 31st of August in Gdansk, one postcard will be drawn. Its author will be awarded a meeting with President Lech Walesa in Gdansk.

We invite you to participate in a Polish-Czech theatre project “zaPLeCZe”

The project has been divided in two stages:

We await your postcards by July 31st, 2010. The cards received will be presented in a virtual gallery, where a voting will be held for the drawing/text.
